AUCTION - AOR 2.219 - Diggers The End Of War - 1967 Poster - Straight Theater - Excellent

Offered here is a very rare original poster from the Straight Theater, which was located on Haight  Street in San Francisco. A very bold political statement against the war in Vietnam. With President Johnson the communist leader, Ho Chi Min, while across the top, it says “The End of the War”, book-ended by the American flag and the North Vietnamese flag. According to Reggie Williams, the Straight Theater lighting guy, this event was co-produced by Emmit Grogan and the Diggers. No artist is known. Notice that it says “Free” three times near the bottom. That is because the Diggers thought that everything should be free. Food, clothing, housing. Everything. This poster is pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 199, plate 2.219. An important political poster from the psychedelic concert era, which measures 15 5/8” X 23 1/8”. In excellent condition, with tape pulls and tape stains on the reverse. Some horizontal lines from having been rolled roughly back in the Sixties. A very important original.
