AUCTION - Patty Hearst SLA - Two-sided 1974 Handbill/Broadside - Very Good

Here is a truly remarkable two-sided flyer from the early 1970s. On the front is the highly recognizable seven-headed snake of the Symbionese Liberation Army. Each head represents one of the chief tenets of the SLA, which are listed in multiple languages surrounding the snake. For those who don't know, the Symbionese Liberation Army was a short-lived, highly radicalized group that went down in flames in a shootout with the police. Most famously they kidnapped newspaper heiress Patty Hearst. She went full-on Stockholm Syndrome and essentially joined the SLA and spent time on the FBI's Most Wanted list. All in all, a pretty incredible saga. Some of which are referred to by the anonymous poem on the reverse. "On the March" is pretty intense stuff. A true product of its time. This incredibly rare two-sided flyer measures 7" x 8" and is in Very Good/Excellent condition, with a large amount of handling and wrinkling throughout the paper, and a pair of brown stains on the front. Edges have two tiny nicks in the upper left corner. We believe the piece was found wadded up, then subsequently folded in quarters to be flattened out later. This rescue flyer is the only one we have ever seen in over 30 years. Astonishing peace from a very intense time in American history.
