AUCTION - BG-117 - Mari Tepper - 1969 Party Invitation - The Matrix - Excellent

Offered for auction is a quite possibly unique invitation to a party for "Jack and Diane" at the legendary and quite small San Francisco venue, the Matrix. They had a legal limit of one hundred patrons so that limits the range for how many of these were made to begin with. Factor in the attrition from being mailed and thrown away plus throw in fifty-five years, and this may well be the lone survivor. The party took place July 20, 1969, and the organizers appropriated artwork by Mari Tepper, who did the original work for Bill Graham on BG-117, about a year before the party at the Matrix. Printed in monochrome bright purple, this piece is not shown in any reference books. Furthermore, we can also say that we have reached out to other collectors/dealers and they have not ever seen it, either. The invitation measures 5 1/8" x 7 5/16", approximately. This incredibly scarce and, again, quite possibly unique, invitation is in Excellent condition. The piece, having been mailed, has the address written on the reverse, along with the postage and the handling required to deliver it. And a lone tape stain. Otherwise, in absolutely fantastic shape and probably the only one you'll ever see.
